The Modelling Department within Refining and Logistics Technology (R<) provides technical support and expertise to BP’s refineries worldwide. The Process Modelling and Simulation team in this department, implements and supports world-class process models within an integrated suite of engineering decision-making tools and processes in support of BP’s Operational Excellence, Advantaged Feedstocks and Refining Margin Expansion Fuels priorities. These tools and processes include Unit Monitoring, Process Modelling, Operator Training Simulators (OTS) and general simulation tools and practices. This Simulation Senior Engineer role will primarily focus on OTS as well as general simulation activities, including detailed flowsheet development, equipment modelling and dynamic simulation. Key accountabilities
Provide technical assistance in the delivery of high fidelity training simulators for refining processes. Assist sites in on-going maintenance of OTS after commissioning, specifically to build and update all aspects of an OTS system including diagnosis of software errors and issues.
Work with sites to sustain the utilisation of training simulators in improving skill and capabilities of board operators. Interact with OTS software vendors to ensure the software platforms meet current and future needs. Provide simulation support for general simulation projects and dynamic modelling Essential Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or equivalent. Essential experience and job requirements
Minimum 3 years of experience in chemical process modelling and simulation. Refining process modelling and simulation experience is preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in process control/DCS. OTS experience is preferred. Knowledge of refinery operations and process safety concepts. Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on working effectively in teams. Ability to build and maintain relationships and interact effectively with all levels within the organization. Demonstrated ability to influence without formal authority. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%. Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)
