Role synopsis

The Asset Integrity Specialist (AIS) position is part of the Integrity Management (IM) team who is responsible for the overall management of inspection programs for piping system (well lines, flow lines and facility piping) for BPXA’s North Slope Business Units in Prudhoe Bay. Prudhoe Bay operates seven production facilities and approximately six additional support facilities in one of the largest production fields in North America located on the North Slope of Alaska.

The AIS role is designed to function much like a Unit Inspector in the Down Stream refining segment. The AIS plays a key role in delivering inspection and mechanical integrity knowledge, service and skills for the management of integrity and compliance on piping systems, tanks, boilers & pressure vessels, and pipelines.

An AIS will work within a multi-functional team setting that assesses asset integrity based on the direct inspection and testing of equipment and process monitoring, and develops measures to maintain integrity through applied corrosion control techniques. The AIS will also have responsibility for involvement in determining fitness for service of pressure piping systems and repair recommendations.

An AIS will be accountable for selection of inspection locations to support the integrity management program. The AIS will be charged with these duties for their respective asset area. In addition, the position is responsible for assuring compliance with Regulatory requirements.

The AIS role is designed to be the single point of contact between the IM team and the Asset Team. The intent is drive improved communication with operations, ownership of the integrity program, and improved integrity management reducing personal and process risk. This position requires significant daily interaction with the departmental multi- disciplined teams, and Operations and Maintenance staff for the BPXA Alaska business units. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting are essential.
Key accountabilities

The main roles and responsibilities for an Asset Integrity Specialist are:

    Develop and maintain communication and relationship with Operations and other Functional groups.
    Provide single BP point of contact between IM Team and the assigned Asset team
    Walk down of major systems to assess inspection coverage
    Select inspection locations that are aligned with BP IM strategy to develop an inspection plan at assigned asset.
    Initiate work orders within BP Work Management Standard for inspection plans with sufficient detail to allow for accurate planning and resource allocation.
    Provide input for scheduling and inspection plan implementation.
    Provide input at Control of Work meeting to facilitate efficient work execution.
    Review inspection data and verify NDT procedure conformance.
    Perform Fitness for Service (FFS) calculations using inspection data.
    Issue notifications to asset leadership for deficient conditions
    Initiate reports (PMPs) and corrective work orders for deficient conditions.
    Monitor progress to correct deficient conditions by assigned due dates.
    Verification of inspection progress against MIMIR requirements and P6 schedule
    Verification of inspection plan completion
    Verification of inspection contractor’s work & conformance with procedures
    Summarize inspection findings at asset.
    Co-ordinate with Well Optimization Engineers to complete required integrity surveys in following various downhole well work activities.
    Review results of well work survey and initiate follow-up surveys as needed.
    Systems & circuits and deadleg register maintenance. Review prioritization and drive proactive risk reduction
    Recommend and drive proactive mitigation eg. deadleg removal, Relative
    Assessment of Piping Integrity Data (RAPID) item mitigation
    Monitor progress of repairs on equipment in assigned asset.
    Review Management of Change (MOC) documents for static equipment changes.
    Monitor, communicate, and update MOC documents to assure appropriate integrity management input is considered.
    Provide Turn Around coverage and support to for static equipment inspections at assigned asset.
    Support, report, and assist with fact or evidence collection to determine LOPC failure mechanism. Communicate facts and findings.
    Participate in RBA/RBI and risk reviews for assigned asset or as needed.
    Asset Specific Corrosion Control Plan (ASCCP). Document review; gain understanding, enhance corrosion management and communicate process change.
    Review Corrosion Monitoring, Chemicals, Pigging, Tanks, Vessels, In-Line Inspection and external plans and maintain awareness of current and forthcoming activity in the asset

Essential Education

High School diploma or equivalent
Essential experience and job requirements

    Minimum of 5 years of experience in oilfield corrosion or mechanical inspection.
    Minimum of 5 years of experience in the inspection and repair of pressure equipment.
    Minimum of 5 years of experience with non-destructive testing.
    Current Valid Driver’s License
    Possess Current API 570 certification
    A strong understanding of inspection methodology and techniques such as UT, VT, DRT, ATRT, Mag Particle, Dye Penetrant, Shear wave, phased array, guided wave, etc.

Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)

Must be willing and able to work a rotational schedule on the North Slope of Alaska.
Desirable criteria & qualifications

    National Board Commission – Required to be obtained within one year of hire
    API 653 Certification – Required to be obtained within one year of hire
    NACE, API, or other additional industry recognized certifications
    Willingness to work a two week by two week rotation schedule
    Familiarity to work a rotating schedule and maintain strong communication and relationship with alternate
    Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field.
    Working knowledge of metallurgy.
    Working knowledge of protective coatings and lining systems.
    Working knowledge of ASME codes, API standards and fitness for service criteria.
    Able to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, respirator or escape pack, if needed in an emergency situation.
    Good organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
    High level of written and oral communications skills
    Ability to work well in a multi-discipline teams and network between groups
    Integrity management skills including an understanding of the main corrosion mechanisms experienced in carbon and stainless steels and common non-ferrous alloys.
    Maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, peers, and management.
    A high level of computer proficiency is required. Ability to use and extract data from a Mechanical Integrity database, analyze data for trends and program status,
    and prepare written and oral reports to management are essential elements.
    Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.

Willing and able to:

    independently lift /carry 35pounds on an occasional basis and upwards of 10 pounds on a frequent basis
    push/pull with upwards of 50 foot pounds of force
    meet OSHA requirements and wear a full body harness and an anti-fall. Equipment with clothes, boots, hard hat and tools while not exceeding a weight greater than 310 pounds
    independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support and sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces (both level and uneven) as well as steel grating, snow, ice and mud
    work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include kneeling, squatting, bending and working while supine
    with or without reasonable accommodation to routinely climb stairs and ladders to extended heights
    with or without reasonable accommodation to work at extremes of heat and cold, and with dust and fumes
