The BP Shah Deniz field is a High Pressure (HP) gas condensate development located off the deepwater shelf of the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, approximately 100km south of Baku in water depths ranging from 70m to 580m. Shah Deniz Stage 1 started up in late 2006 and consists of the Shah Deniz Alpha platform, 2 train gas processing plant at Sangachal Terminal. Stage 1 is designed to supply in excess of 900mmscfd of sales gas to Azerbaijan and to Georgia and Turkey through the South Caucasus Pipeline, condensate is exported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline.
The Shah Deniz Stage 2 Project will develop the remaining reserves of approx 33tcf. The development concept consists of 26 subsea wells tied back to a two platform complex, gas and condensate pipelines to Sangachal Terminal, gas processing trains at Sangachal. The project is one of the largest in BP’s portfolio and will produce an additional 16bcma of gas.
At Sangachal Terminal there will be an expansion of the existing Terminal with two new gas and two new condensate processing trains.
The project is also strategically important in securing energy supplies to Europe as much of the gas will be sold directly to countries in the European Union.
The successful candidates will work within the Operations Readiness Team in the project for the Onshore Facilities. The Control and Instrumentation Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the smooth transition through commissioning and start up into operation of the Shah Deniz 2 Onshore Terminal. The successful applicant will have an excellent understanding of all aspects of oil and gas production operations with an established and proven track record in an operations team role – preferably with project experience.
The role will commence in Baku, supporting commissioning and start-up and will then become the first line of support for the SD2 Onshore Facilities. Key accountabilities
The Control & Instrumentation Engineer’s role is a key position and the post holder will:
Demonstrate safety leadership and excellent safety behaviours at all times. Act as a role model for health, safety and environmental commitment. Meet all Health, Safety and Environmental goals as detailed in BP policies and Project HSSE targets.
During the Operations Readiness Phase the successful candidate will:
Input to the final development of the Maintenance Management System (Maximo). Provide C&A and I&PS discipline input to the setting up of any necessary Operations support contracts with external suppliers. Support the development and become custodian of discipline specific systems e.g. GE Bentley Nevada, Smart Signal, SVTT etc Be C&I authority for ORP activities, Lead ICSS Alarm Reduction project Custodian of health performance monitoring systems , eg control loop monitoring. Supervise an I&PS Challenge Engineer and be a role model for other discipline engineers.
During Commissioning and Start-Up, the role will:
Provide C&A and I&PS discipline operations input during commissioning. Work with Project hook up and commissioning teams and input to plans for successful completion of an integrated approach to start-up Become the ‘owner’ of Instrument and control systems.
Provide engineering, technical and logistical support to the Shah Deniz 2 facilities to maintain its safety, production and
performance targets. Provide rapid-response support following incidents or process upsets by serving as first-response primary contact for facility related incidents and production upsets Accountable to deliver solutions to prioritised engineering queries and operations support requests from operations team. Ensure the optimum combination of in-house, contractor and vendor resources are utilised to provide a high standard of ops support. Accountable to identify & mitigate safety risks and production vulnerabilities Responsible for implementing formal Management of Change procedures. Coach, mentor and contribute to the professional development of less experienced national C&A and I&PS Engineers
The Shah Deniz 2 Project is committed to nationalisation and a robust National Technician training and coaching programme has been implemented. To support this initiative the successful applicant will be required to:
Provide assurance on the competency, within discipline, of the technicians. Train and develop C&A and I&PS graduates
Essential Education
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related discipline is required. - The candidate should have a working knowledge of industry and government standards such as ISA, IEC, NEC, API requirements for facilities. Essential experience and job requirements
Demonstrable commitment to high HSSE standards. Engineering Degree (Preferably I&C) 5 years+ experience of working within the oil, gas or chemical industry at an operating site. Experience of Commissioning or Start-up on a large Project Willing and able to be mobile in support of the project. Experience of using BP’s ETPs and SOPs Knowledge and experience of MOC system as applied to instrument and control systems Azerbaijani citizenship is required
