This role will lead all aspects of the Technology development of Nexcel including:
Develop and implement technical strategy for NEXCEL to include, product development, integration approach, formulation development Actively create the thought leadership around NEXCEL to ensure a lasting competitive advantage A key leadership role within the Nexcel team and in the wider BP Castrol business Creation and management of board level Vehicle Manufacturer account relationships, specifically on technology Management of external technical specialist and consulting engineers Drive a compelling program of OEM engagement to understand requirements and influence take-up of the technology, problem solving along the way to overcome barriers In addition close involvement in the manufacturing scale up, and development of the supply chain strategy. Recruitment strategy to support the Nexcel ambitions of mass market growth
The successful candidate will be a recognised automotive leader with expertise in automotive power-train, vehicle and lubricant technology with a track record of delivering innovative solutions and a capability to think out-side of the box.
The role will sit on the NEXCEL leadership team, and will be involved in aspects of the management of this fast growing business unit, as well as line management of the technical team. Key accountabilities
Develop and deploy the NEXCEL technology from concept to production delivery Build further confidence and support for the program from OEM customers at senior level and from BP stakeholders Adoption of the technology on program for key OEMs A compelling and innovative future technology pipeline with clear deliverables and milestones consistently met Team leadership of a high performing technology team Accountability for both internal and external NEXCEL technical facilities and equipment, including dedicated lab and workshop facilities Thought leadership in automotive design and operation Value mapping of activities to establish a participation strategy Delivery of a high technology hardware solution in an efficient and creative manner, effectively managing risk and pace Complexity of developing solutions appropriate to multiple OEMs while retaining simple design principles and reducing cost Breadth of technical expertise from automotive engineering, lubricant product development, and production approaches

Essential experience and job requirements
The job holder will be a highly experienced, and externally recognised automotive expert with significant experience within the automotive industry with proven:
Strong track record of delivery of automotive technology projects to product implementation Experience of working in collaboration with multiple automotive partners Excellent influencing skills (from the Board room to the factory floor) Strong contact map within the Automotive sector Ability to lead a team of highly motivated engineers and technical specialists for successful delivery. The ability to manage multiple projects and supplier accounts. Great team player and ability to work closely with colleagues. Energy enthusiasm and a drive to deliver The ability to take complex issues and problems and articulate them simply and in an engaging, succinct, jargon-free way Adaptable communication – able to work in different countries, cultures and environments Positive can do attitude and able to think outside the box and open to new ideas The ability to rapidly evaluate risk in projects and to make decisions based on balance of success Ability to draw on creative skills to generate new and ground-breaking propositions

Nexcel is a multi-million dollar programme with very high revenue potential and is a key strategic pillar for the Castrol business. It has strong support from the BP CEO and the business leadership This is a Global programme with headquarters in Reading UK. Travel to technology partners and to vehicle OEMs will be a necessary part of the role

Other major product development centres for lubricants are in Neuhof (Germany) where all BP's transmission and axle oils are developed, Naperville (US) and Mönchengladbach (Germany), where specialised industrial fluids such as cutting oils and metal forming fluids are formulated. Smaller satellite technology centres provide local technical support to the lubricants businesses and manufacturing operations in the regions.
BP’s Fuels Value Chains (FVCs) supply transportation fuels to markets in North America, Europe, Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the Pangbourne site, GFT teams are also based in Naperville (US), Bochum (Germany) and Cape Town (South Africa), where they provide direct support to the regional Fuels Value Chain businesses.
