Job Description
A pavement engineer with in-depth experience of new jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) construction is required to assist with coordinating, executing, and documenting construction activities. Pavement sections will be built with various design features for research purposes. The JPCP will include granular and asphalt base options as well as edge drains. Formal and informal training of construction practices, QC/QA methods, and material sampling and testing protocols will also be needed.
Roles And Responsibilities
With general supervision and ample decision-making:
Communicate and work with diverse groups (e.g., paving contractors, inspectors, materials engineers, and researchers)
Coordinate and assist in material sampling and other construction activities
Participate in construction coordination meetings
Review and develop construction specifications and test standards
Answer questions and provide information to construction personnel
Document construction activities
Provide formal and informal training
Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
Able to meet deadlines.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or related field
A minimum of 8 years of concrete pavement construction experience
Experience with managing and coordinating with staff from diverse backgrounds
Excellent communication (verbal and writing) and organizational skills
Knowledge/Skill
Concrete pavement design procedures and construction practices
Pavement construction materials QC/QA methods
Construction plans reading and interpretation skills
Specification development
Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
