Geomechanics Rock Analysis Specialist
Location: Houston - United States
The Geomechanics Rock Analysis Specialist conducts Rock Mechanics tests via laboratory scaled model testing for oil/gas, mining and civil engineering industries, universities, and government agencies. Responsible for load frame operations and is a technical contributor working in the area of Geomechanics.
Responsibilities:
Operates complex load (stress) frame equipment, day to day, in a Rock Mechanics laboratory
Rigorously follows detailed testing instructions supplied by project engineers / managers
Performs required detailed equipment calibration procedures to ensure equipment is functioning to within required tolerances prior to testing sample sets
Can do basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and/or software related trouble-shooting on load frames when needed
Does data reduction using Excel templates, MATLAB programs, or similar, when required. Data reduction consists of taking raw data generated from various testing machines, placing it into a usable, client friendly format, and then tabulating the desired rock properties and figures into a concise format.
May be responsible for checking in core, creating inventory lists of material received, and identifying the received condition of material
May be responsible for shipping all samples and carcass material back to client at end of a project
Able to do photography of samples and optimize images when required
Must be able to function as part of a team, and operate multiple pieces of equipment, multiple projects during a typical work day
Must be able to understand and follow equipment operational and safety procedures
Employee may be assigned other duties, in addition to or in lieu of those described above, and any duties are subject to change at any time, according to the needs of the location or company
Qualifications:
Degree in Geology or related sciences
Minimum 5 years’ related experience with experimental Rock Mechanics / analysis work and load frame operations
Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of load frame testing procedures
Knowledge of Rock Mechanics lab environment
Understanding of pressure equipment and associated risks
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Can handle multiple projects of medium complexity
Identifies technical issues, and able to overcome them
