Role synopsis

An engineering manager is required for the North Star Project. The purpose of the role is to provide engineering assurance to BP during the design, construction and commissioning phases of the project. This position represents BP’s engineering requirements and works to manage the development of the design to those specifications. The engineering manager is the main interface between BP and the ISBL and OSBL contractors on the job.
Key accountabilities

The role is responsible for ensuring design completion through the preliminary, detailed and field design (construction) phases of the project. The role will also be the single point of contact for design questions from design contractors, technology vendors and constructors, reviewing and answering technical queries. Additionally, the role holder must be sufficiently experienced to implement process safety resolutions to mitigate and reduce operations risk while providing informed engineering support to adhere to BP’s policy of “Management of No Change” during execution. Finally, the position must be familiar with to BP’s management of change philosophy and adhere to the principle of “Management of no change.
Essential Education

• Fluent in English and Mandarin essential
• Professional Engineering Degree is essential
Essential experience and job requirements

The engineering manager must have experience as a mechanical or civil engineer. Experience as a fabricator or field engineering role for a quality assurance perspective is desirable. Essential experience required for the position is as follows:
• Fluent in mechanical or civil engineering principles
• Familiar with BP’s engineering requirements from S&OR and BP’s GDPs
• Expert in the engineering process from design through detailed engineering to commissioning phase
• Working experience with EPCM contracting models and fluent in the language of design and construction contracts
• Familiar with CVP and Pcp gated processes and BP’s policy of Management of no change

• 10+ years multi-services engineering experience
• Fluent in the process of design, detailing and field construction engineering on multi-discipline projects > $100m USD

Desirable criteria & qualifications

Key challenges faced on the role :
The role is responsible for reviewing and recommending the approval of design from ISBL and OSBL contractors. The role must therefore work with the regional engineering manager and lubricants engineering authority to ensure that the design meets BP’s standards and will function as engineered.


The engineering manager is required to be well versed in either civil or mechanical engineering principles, experienced in capital project delivery and BP engineering requirements for lubricants, group defined practices and the requirements of Pcp version 4.
